With that in mind, we’ve got the ‘can’t-do-withouts’ that we always take on our summer beach holidays; and we’re channeling a bit of that retro vibe whilst we do it.
Apparently the human mind can only remember five to nine items in short term memory at once. We, (ahem) might pack a few more items than this when we go to Europe on our beach holidays so grab a pen a paper and jot this little lot down.

One-piece, bikini, boardies – whatever your preference, bathers are must-haves for any European beach holiday.
Apparently all th e cool kids are wearing 90s Retro-style high-waisted bikini bottoms, tops with tie shoulders and polka dot patterns whilst looking to the future, wearing sustainable and ethically produced swimwear. We salute you!
Fiction, non-fiction or that celeb autobiography you’ve been dying to get your head into for ages – pack a good book for when you’re relaxing on the beach. Travel guides to plan your next adventure or just some guilt-free trashy magazines work well too!
Forget Google translate and instead learn a bit of the lingo with a phrase book for the country you’re visiting. “Una copa de vino por favor!!”
Ditch the mobile phone,selfies and detox from your Insta account for a while, and instead take a digital camera. Or even better, go completely analogue with a single-use disposable camera so that you’ll be surprised by the pictures when you get them developed back home and can relive your adventures again.
Whether it’s DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince with Summertime or Bryan Adams’ Summer of ’69; you’ll want to share your favourite tunes with your nearest and dearest by the pool or on your hotels room balcony.
Did someone say straw Trilby hat? A Fedora will work well too. We’re also quite partial to a Visor (yes really!) Whatever keeps your face and skin protected. Plus…no one will know if you’re really just taking a siesta underneath that wide brim.
If you’re headed somewhere with unmissable underwater creatures then don’t forget a good quality snorkel kit or goggles. Your own kit will fit better than anything you could hire.
If the sun is still out by the time you’ve managed to blow it up then an inflatable is definitely worth the effort for relaxing in the pool or sea.
We love a beach shelter or tent to make our home at the beach for the day. Buy it at your destination and then pay it forward by leaving it behind.

Given you will be spending most of your time at the beach or by the pool, a pair of your best Havaianas are one of THE beach holiday essentials. We like to take a pair for the day and a dressier pair for those nighttime strolls to dinner. You can even match a pair with a Hammamas.
